Can I drink the water in Mexico? Is it safe at the retreat center? Do I need to know Spanish?

Naum Tulum is a private retreat center in the jungle that is safe and secluded, with staff around to help assist and be our guides. It is very quiet and relaxing in nature but close enough to Tulum Beach (20 min)
We do NOT reccommend drinking water while out in Tulum and visiting Mexico in general but we DO have access to purified water at the retreat center for drinking.
You do not need to know Spanish to attend the retreat. The staff know some english and work with Americans often, so no worries. But it would be a great place to practice spanish if you are studying it.
What fitness level must I be? Do I need to be experienced at yoga?

Having a yoga practice once a week or having practiced regularly in the past is helpful but not required. Our dance classes will have a cardio component, so please consider incorporating a weekly dance or yoga practice before attending (suggested” Blissasana Yoga” class with Jenny on youtube, but this is not required). We honor all ages, fitness levels and body types on our retreat! Our practice is more about how you FEEL than how you look. Self-love, body-positive vibes only!!!!

What is a Temazcal Ceremony?

A temazcal ceremony is an ancient Mesoamerican spiritual ritual in a dome-shaped sweat lodge, symbolizing rebirth, involving a shaman, hot volcanic stones, steam, and medicinal herbs for deep physical and spiritual cleansing, promoting healing, release, and connection with Mother Earth through chanting, prayer, and reflection in darkness and heat. Participants enter a dark, womb-like space, sit around heated rocks, and experience intense steam from water mixed with herbs like copal and rosemary, guided through rounds representing the four directions for purification and transformation.
What Happens During a Ceremony
Preparation: A welcoming ritual involves fire and thanking the earth, with participants setting intentions.
Entering the Lodge: Participants crawl through a low entrance, symbolizing entering the womb of Mother Earth.
The Ritual: A shaman pours water and herbal mixtures over hot volcanic stones (abuelas) in the center, creating intense steam.
Four Doors/Rounds: The ceremony has four rounds (doors), with the entrance opened to bring in more stones and connect to the four cardinal directions (East, South, West, North).
Spiritual Work: Chanting, singing, prayers, and meditation are performed in the darkness, allowing for emotional release and personal reflection.
Rebirth: Emerging from the lodge signifies a new beginning, cleansed and renewed.
WE ARE NOT PLANNING TO INGEST ANY PLANT MEDICINES THAT ARE CONSIDERED DRUGS OR HALLUCINOGENICS. THIS WILL BE PURELY PRAYER, MEDITATION, AND HEALING FROM THE HEAT/STEAM.
THIS IS NOT REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE BUT IT IS INCLUDED IN THE RETREAT PACKAGE AT NO EXTRA CHARGE AT THE SCHEDULED TIME.
IT WILL HAPPEN ON SITE, RIGHT ON LOCATION. THE DAY WILL BE EASY GOING AND COOLING AFTERWARDS TO SUPPORT YOU. LUNCH AND REST TIME WILL BE OFFERED DIRECTLY AFTER TO SUPPORT YOU FURTHER. PLEASE PLAN TO REST AFTER AND NOT SCHEDULE ADDITIONAL EXCURSIONS OR HIGH IMPACT EXERCISE RIGHT AFTER.
